After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon, though areas in higher elevations could see 1-2". The main impact will be the cold along with winds gusting up to 40 mph at times. Click on the 'Weather' tab for more...
A two-mile stretch of interstate south of Fountain proved dangerous Sunday, with four separate crashes occurring there.
All happened between mile markers 123 and 125 on I-25.
The first of the four accidents, a fatal single-vehicle rollover, happened just before 7 a.m. on the northbound side of the interstate. The four occupants were ejected after troopers say the 23-year-old driver veered off the road and rolled her vehicle. The driver was the only survivor. Troopers say she was taken to the hospital with moderate-to-serious injuries. Her identity has not been released, but State Patrol says she is from Pueblo.
Several hours later in the same area, a motorcyclist had to be airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a car. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries. State Patrol has not released much information about this crash, but our crew on scene reported seeing the driver of the vehicle handcuffed and placed in the back of the patrol car.
Also Sunday afternoon, two rollovers on the I-25 frontage road caused major backups. Neither crash was fatal.
Drivers told 11 News they were surprised that so many crashes happened in the same area Sunday.
"It's a fairly flat and straight stretch of highway," Dion Munoz said. Munoz is a truck driver, who navigate along I-25 several times a week.
Troopers say alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal crash, but there's no word on what caused the other three accidents.
