The bodies of an Army staff sergeant and his pregnant wife will be flown to Virginia Thursday, where the couple will then be buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Staff Sgt. David Dunlap and Whitney Butler were killed on Jan, 14 when they walked into a burglary-in-progress at their Colorado Springs home. Police say the couple surprised the suspect, who then opened fire on the pair as they entered the home on Bassett Drive.

A 17-year-old, Macyo January, was arrested Jan. 17 at a home on the 3900 block of E. Bijou. January was arrested on charges of first-degree murder. He was officially charged as an adult Wednesday.

A 19-year-old male was also arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to first-degree murder and of harboring a fugitive.

Fort Carson held a memorial for Dunlap Wednesday. Dunlap was remembered in an emotional ceremony as a courageous veteran, who loved his wife and his country. His best friend told 11 News the couple was excited to find out they were expecting a their first child.

"When Dave told me...popping champagne, conference call, one of the most joyous experiences we've had," Sgt. 1st Class Bryant Macfarlane said.

Macfarlane said he feels lost without his best friend.

"I definitely feel there is a hole inside of me, a part of me that should be here that isn't. When I look around I keep expecting to see his goofy smile to come around that corner and make a snide comment at me. But it's not happening."

The couple was also remembered as being very happy together.

The bodies of Dunlap and Butler were escorted by a police motorcade to the Denver International Airport beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The motorcade began on the 3100 block of Platte, went to Powers, up Powers to Interquest, then Interquest to the interstate. Springs police led the motorcade to the northern edge of the city, where a private company took over.
