Neighborhood Comes Together After Two Killed In Crash

A neighborhood came together after an accident kills two women, and leaves a 14 month old baby in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital.

Neighbors held a candlelight vigil for Rebecca Lynn Robinson and her friend, Rose Arcuragi who died while crossing the street. The two women were crossing North Carefree Circle and Picturesque Drive around 8 a.m., on Monday. Robinson's 14 month old baby was in the stroller when they were hit.

Neighbors told 11 News they want to see a school zone put in, and the speed limit lowered in the area. On North Carefree, between Academy and Oro Blanco, there are two schools nearby; Carver Elementary is just across the street.

Facing north on Picturesque, it’s a blind spot for cars and for people trying to get across North Carefree. There's no light and no crosswalk. Patti Hoekstra has lived in the neighborhood for almost a decade.

"You do see people crossing there with their children, it’s kind of scary," Hoekstra said.

Susan Smith points out just how many accidents have happened at Picturesque and North Carefree.

"That building’s been hit, those mailboxes have been taken out, that building’s been hit, the top building before the shopping center has been taken out," Smith said.

In 2008 two people on a motorcycle died after crashing into an SUV at the same intersection. Hoekstra said the speed limit went up to 40 miles per hour a few years ago. Now, she wants it to go back down.

“We think it would be awesome if they put a school zone, (and) flashing light before that curve,” Hoekstra said.

With Carver Elementary and the park just across the street, we’re told some families cross at Picturesque because it's a shorter distance.

We timed it and it's an extra 10 minutes. We clocked the round trip walk to the light at Oro Blanco, across at the signal light, and then to the park.

Neighbors want something done, before there's another deadly accident.

The woman who police say was behind the wheel is facing two charges. Police say Jennifer Eggleton was "served and released" for careless driving resulting in death and pedestrian's right of way in crosswalk.
