Two challenges to stop recall efforts against a pair of Colorado state senators were denied Wednesday.
Sen. Angela Giron tried to get the secretary of state's office recused from hearing her recall challenge, but the motion was denied.
A lawyer for Democratic Giron, who represents Pueblo, argued July 3 that Secretary of State Scott Gessler met with the organizers of the Giron recall effort, and therefore could not be impartial.
Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Staiert did not agree.
Democratic Senate President John Morse also lost his first challenge on the wording of the recall petition.
Giron and Morse are both challenging recall petitions certified by Gessler's office. The lawmakers are being targeted because they both supported gun control measures.
