A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Several inches of accumulation will be possible in areas where these bands develop. For more information click the ‘Weather’ tab...
A couple has a warning for everyone to be careful if you receive a phone call saying you've won big.
There is a new scam moving through southern Colorado.
"I got a call on my cell phone from Jamaica," said Herb Cohagan.
He and his wife received several calls from Jamaica Monday morning before they finally answered.
"He said, 'You won $2 million and a Mercedes,'" said Cohagan.
The scammer told the couple they needed to go to Walmart to buy a prepaid card for about $200. Then, they were instructed to call him back and tell him the numbers on the card.
11 Call For Action expert Betty Sexton says this is a new way for crooks to get your money.
"There are no security features attached to the card. Once you give out the 14-digit code on the card, you're giving that person cash," said Sexton.
Sexton says if you are actually a winner, you shouldn't have to pay anything up front to get your prize.
"If someone shows up at your door and you have legitimately won, you will have to pay taxes. Not right away, but down the road," said Sexton.
Cohagan tells 11 News there were red flags from the beginning. When he got off the phone with the scammer, he immediately called authorities.
Authorities in Fremont County tell 11 News they have received several calls about this scam circulating the area.
