Roads are icy in spots that saw accumulating snow yesterday. Allow yourself plenty of extra time this morning and dress warmly, as wind chills are in the single digits and teens for many. A second disturbance will bring another round of snow showers to the Front Range this afternoon and early evening. The landscape in many areas has significantly changed post-fire, putting those living near burn areas at risk of flooding.
Homeowners in areas at risk of flooding post-Waldo Canyon Fire will receive free sandbags from the city next month.
Sandbags will be given away at the Verizon Wireless building on 2424 Garden of the Gods Road from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management and Colorado Springs Together have teamed up to make the donations possible.
As we approach the summer monsoon season, flooding is a real concern for those in living in areas impacted by the fire, as areas previously protected by vegetation are now vulnerable. For information on flood risk and what you can do to protect yourself, click here.
