Retired Chaplain Granted Continuance Of Arraignment Hearing

David Grosse, 78, the retired Air Force Chaplain charged with sexual assault on a child by person in a position of trust, and seven other charges, was in court today for an arraignment hearing. Defense for Grosse asked the judge for a continuance of the arraignment because a pretrial evaluation had not been completed.

District Court Judge Larry E. Schwartz granted the continuance after he initially said he would like to set the case for trial.

The defense argued that if the case was set for trial the District Attorney would withdraw any offers for Grosse and not make any further deals, that might benefit Grosse.

The DA in this case agreed that was indeed true and Judge Schwartz granted a continuance of arraignment proceedings until February 11 at 9:00 am.

The arraignment would have included a formal reading of the criminal complaint against Grosse and he would have been expected to enter a plea.

Detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department first received word about a possible sexual assault case centering around retired chaplain David Grosse, on July 3. As they delved into the investigation, at least four victims were discovered.

According to court papers obtained by 11 News, one of the alleged victims told police Grosse started sexually abusing her when she was just 4 years old. That victim went on to tell authorities that the abuse took place almost every time she visited Grosse at his house in Monument, and other homes in Colorado Springs, Monument and Nathrop.

The court papers outline similar encounters with other young girls.
Police arrested Grosse after these girls came forward to authorities.

Records indicate this is the first time Grosse has ever been arrested.

Investigators believe there may be more victims, and asks that anyone ever victimized by Grosse to step forward so that police can help.

Anyone with any information that could help investigators with this case is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
