A student driver for a service that gives safe rides home for Colorado State University students has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence while on duty.

Student Karl La Borde apologized Tuesday for smoking marijuana.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian reports (http://bit.ly/VAuV1z ) campus police arrested the volunteer RamRide driver around 2 a.m. Friday.

A representative for the Larimer County district attorney's office says the student faces charges of speeding, driving under the influence, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

RamRide is provided through the Associated Students of CSU. The group's chief of staff, Robert Duran, says only the driver and another volunteer were in the car at the time of the arrest.
