The Humane Society says that the Good Samaritan who rescued a dying 4-month-old puppy after it was thrown from a vehicle is likely the guilty party.

The man had rushed the puppy to the Humane Society Friday morning and told them that he had seen the dog tossed out a window of a moving vehicle.

The Humane Society says its veterinary staff worked for hours to save the puppy's life, but were unable to. The surgery center says it was able to manage the puppy's pain, but the internal injuries were too severe.

Going off the man's story, Animal Law Enforcement had put out an alert for a SUV-style vehicle seen in the area of Garden of the Gods and I-25 around 7:45 a.m. Friday.

But now, authorities say the Good Samaritan could face animal cruelty charges after he confessed to making the story up.

Officials now waiting for the results of a necropsy, which will be conducted next week. Those results will help authorities determine cause of death and where to proceed from here.
