Pueblo PD: 'Pedophile' Author Gets No Special Protection

Amazon.com has pulled a controversial pedophile book from virtual shelves. Police have begun an investigation on the author due to the content of the book.

Police are aware of at least one threat against Phillip R. Greaves II that was posted on-line after the story about his book aired Wednesday. There have been reports that police have been monitoring his house, but Pueblo police have said that is not true; they are treating him like any other person. Daniel Anderson, a detective with the Pueblo police, said that just like anybody else, if he has a problem, he can call 911.

The book, called “The Pedophile’s Guide To Love And Pleasure”, drew national attention-- and outrage.

It was being sold on Amazon. Amazon bowed to the pressure by people pushing for a boycott for distributing it.

The book had more than 2,000 “reviews,” virtually all of them negative.
There was also a Facebook page: “Boycott Amazon.com for Selling How-To Guide for Pedophile." More than 2,200 people say they like that idea.

Amazon initially defended its sale of the book because it “believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable.”

11 News caught up with Greaves at his Pueblo home. He says the response to his book is a "knee-jerk reaction" to its title by people who have not read it. But also says he’s learned controversy sells books: prior to Wednesday, he’d sold one copy. After the story hit national news, CBS News reported he sold more than 3,000.

Greaves said he’s not a pedophile, and “The word ‘pedophile,’ I believe, means somebody who loves children, OK? And you’re not somebody who loves children if you’re raping and murdering and killing them.” He also says “Anything such as kissing, fondling, that sort of thing I don’t think is that serious of a problem.”

Greaves is not a registered sex offender and does not have a criminal record.

Many people would find some of his comments to 11 News very offensive.

We’re not airing that interview on our newscasts, but we are making excerpts available here if you are interested in viewing them.

Police and child safety experts say books and information like what Greaves published on Amazon have been available for years, and it's up to parents to help stay aware of their children's safety.

Jan Isaacs Henry, of KidPower in Colorado Springs, says stories like these are a good time to give parents ideas for ways to help teach their kids "People Safety."

"I think what parents need to do is talk to their kids about this topic in a way that isn't scary or explicit," said Isaacs Henry. She added that kids should be told that touch, problems and presents should never be secrets.

Tune in to 11 News This Morning on Friday for a live interview with Isaacs Henry, where she'll discuss more ways that parents, teachers and other adults in the community can help protect and empower children.

Tom your an idot! I can't believe you are trying to blame pedofiles on obama! This prob has been around for a while. This is about freedom of speech. This is about a person who has written a handbook on how to do sever harm on innocent children. Lets have somone rape you and see how you feel and then just tell you its ok..I read it in a book that said its ok. Your just as much a moron as the writer. And Too Everone..its because we are all waiting for somone to see if he has an "accident".

controversy just got 43 of you to respond, even looking up the word in the dictionary. If you're all so disgusted, why even bother commenting on this article? Move on to better things people! You just gave him what he wanted....attention.

Okay....everyone calm down. Big deal, so he's a pedophile. The government needs to stop regulating everything. Freedom isn't free everybody. We should have the freedom to do what we want. This is the problem with Obamas America.

Yes, this scumbag has a right to print a book like this. Yes, he has a right to spend his own money to self-publish a book like this. Yes, it is his right under the freedom of speech and press. And yes, this is a prime example of the irresponsible usage of these said rights that this scumbag has instigated. Irresponsible usage of this freedom is much like what Westboro Baptist Church does when they picket military funerals, or when a person gives out pamphlets with details on how to kill as many civilians as possible at a public place. Responsible usage of freedom of speech is when someone maintains a certain civil and respectful standard of discussing their opinion. A sub-standard book such as this written by a sub-standard 'author' is quite surprising to see on a site like Amazon, which prides itself on supposedly practicing responsible freedom of choice, speech and press. I challenge Amazon to resume it's responsible freedoms by taking this sub-standard book off it's sites.

This author of this "Pedophile" book controdict hisself. He says in his interview that pedophiles are not the ones who child molest, rape, and murder for the love of children. Hate to say it but that is love to those who do it. I will turn this all around and look to the Author as the Child molester, Child rapist, and Child murderer to get rid of the doing evidence. As in his interview with KKTV, he said he only has sex with Adults. I DOUBT IT. I BELIEVE HE WROTE ABOUT HISSELF, INSTEAD. Those that buy this book wanted pointers for themselves, too, the way to cover their act of crime as this Author did. Pedophile must be the possitive side of the crime side of Child Molestation, Child Rape, and Child Murders. Based on His looks on His interview, he is covering up something. Insest would fall into this same catagory. Sex within Family members, Adults with Children the same measure

"Free speech" can only be violated by the government. I have the right to keep someone from giving a speech I disagree with on my front lawn, but the government can't keep people from giving a speech in a public park based on content. Similarly, Amazon doesn't have to sell ANY book. Focus on the Family doesn't have to sell books on Wicca and a Pagan bookstore doesn't have to sell the Bible. Also, "kissing" a child is a violation of law if it is done for sexual gratification and "fondling" a child is sure as heck illegal. This book is advocatiing illegal activity and a business doesn't HAVE to sell it.

Brian you're as sick as the that wrote the book and Dominic you're just plan evil. Think the two of you deserve each other, sickos.

It is hard to defend such an obviously sick individual. HOWEVER, Amazon should have the right to sell the book if they choose, and this sicko definitely has the right to write it. I find the bible offensive (with its message of gay hating and white male superiority) and it has sold more than any other book in history. Lighten up, people. A card carrying member of NAMBLA or a KKK hood head has just as much leeway as Focus on the Family. God Bless America :-)
