Officials with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office are implementing changes in order to stop a website from posting photos of Pueblo inmates and then making money off the photos.
Sheriff Kirk Taylor says photos of inmates booked into the Pueblo County Jail will no longer be posted on the sheriff’s website. Typically, a photo of the accused criminals would be posted until that person was released from jail, and then it would be removed.
An independent website called PuebloMugShots.com has been collecting those photos for nearly two years. They would keep those mug shots on their website until that person paid them $100 to have it removed.
It’s a move the Sheriff’s Office says could be considered “extortion,” and is putting policy changes in place to stop it. Photos of inmates will no longer be published on the sheriff’s website.
Those arrested and booked will still have their picture taken, but you won’t be able to see them online. You will still be able to see who is incarcerated and what charges they face.
