It could increase the chances that our homes survive a wildfire. Sunday, KKTV got a first-hand look at the new technology.

House Hydrant is an external sprinkler system designed by firefighters in Colorado Springs. It mounts to the roof of a house, and is set to automatically drench the roof with up to 5,000 gallons of water if a fire approaches.

The developers of the system say an on-site water tank and pump will ensure that the system will still work in the case of water and electricity being shut off.

The system also features a special hydrant that firefighters can access if needed.

The company says some members of local fire departments and homeowners have already signed up to have the system installed.
