Police: Facebook Leads To Park Shooting Suspects

Two men have been arrested for a shooting at a Springs park, thanks in part to Facebook.

The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. Nov. 26 at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.

Witness initially told police that the victim was approached by one man while sitting at the skate park, but police said Friday that two men have been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Those men have been identified as 23-year-old Joaquin Soto and 20-year-old Jeritt Tardiff. They were arrested December 5th and 6th respectively.

According to arrest papers, a witness recorded the fight and the shooting on his phone. Realizing he recognized one of the suspects, the witness went to Facebook to check the suspect's last name and told detectives what he found.

The arrest papers reveal this all started as a fight between Soto and the victim, who were apparently in rival gangs. Soto allegedly called one of his friends, thought to be Tardiff, who showed up with a gun and shot the victim before the two suspects just walked away.

11 News talked to a woman who heard the gunfire.

“I had to put my head down for a second because he was running towards my direction and I didn’t want him to see me,” the witness explained.

The victim is a 22-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Both suspects are expected to be in court next week.
