Police: Man Assaults Girlfriend With Hammer

A man fueled by jealousy brutally attacked his girlfriend with a hammer, according to police.

Jeffrey Taurianen, 24, was arrested early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Creekside Apartments near Powers and Palmer Park Boulevard in Colorado Springs on reports of a man going door-to-door looking for his girlfriend, carrying a gun. Officers learned Taurianen had allegedly made several blows to his girlfriend's head using a hammer, threatened her with a handgun, and carried her against her will as she tried to escape.

The 32-year-old victim is recovering in the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Police say Taurianen's attack was spurred by jealousy.
