Officers are investigating a stabbing on the southwest side of the Springs.

Police say the victim was found in the basement of the Remnant Church on 1615 E. Cheyenne Rd. just after 2 a.m. Monday. According to the pastor, the victim and a homeless man got into an altercation, which resulted in the victim being stabbed. It's unknown if the victim is also homeless. Officers say the pastor allows homeless people to sleep in the church's basement.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Janus Armstead. He underwent surgery on life-threatening injuries. Police say he survived the surgery.

The suspect, 42-year-old William Thomas, has been arrested for attempted first-degree murder.
