Materials found in a vacant apartment in southeast Springs caused a bomb scare Monday afternoon, forcing HAZMAT and a bomb squad to respond.
The materials were determined to be harmless, but not before a several-hour investigation. The materials, which turned out to be used in metal refinement, were originally thought to be possible bomb-making materials.
The materials were found in a vacant unit at the El Vecino Apartments late Monday morning. The complex is located in the area of Monterey and Shasta.
