According to court papers, the shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead, may have been an accident.
Logan Treguier, 20, was found dead on the 5400 block of Mosquito Pass Drive in Colorado Springs. That's near North Carefree and Powers. The call came into police at 11:10 p.m. Friday.
Court papers reveal the victim was home with four other men including the suspect, 21-year-old Benjamin Joe Brown III.
Investigators said Brown first told them he pulled up to the home when a friend came outside yelling Treguier had been shot. After several interviews and during the course of the investigation, Brown later told police he pulled the handgun out from a sofa in the basement.
Investigators said Brown told them he tried to set it on a table, but that’s when he fumbled the gun and when he tried to catch it, the gun went off, shooting and killing Treguier.
Court papers also reveal Brown admitted to smoking some marijuana upon arriving and Treguier’s home.
Brown is being charged with manslaughter.
Treguier's death is the 25th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Police say last year at this time there were 19 homicides.
