Bond for a man accused in a vicious assault on a 71-year-old woman has been set at $250,000.

Police say Jacob Lashun Lewis, 33, turned himself in last week, five months after the crime took place. Lewis faced a judge for the first time Monday.

On February 7, a man broke into the victim's home while she was watching TV late at night. The victim told police that she noticed someone peeking into her bedroom, so she grabbed her handgun and left the room.

Once in the hall, the victim said the attack happened too quickly for her to protect herself. The man allegedly burst into the house, threw her to the ground and knocked the gun out of her hand before she could fire it. After sexually assaulting her, police say the suspect threatened the woman with her own gun and forced her to hand over her wallet.

Police say the suspect was later identified as Lewis through the victim's description and surveillance from a nearby Walmart. Police also say that a man who was with Lewis at Walmart came forward when he saw his picture on the news and helped them piece together a timeline of what they believe happened that night.

The alleged crime happened on East Boulder Street in Colorado Springs.

11 News has also learned that this isn't the first time Jacob Lewis has been in serious trouble with the law. He pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl back in 1999. Lewis was 19 years old at the time.
