A medical call turned violent after police were forced to arrest a man who fought with firefighters and cops Friday evening.
Residents of a home on the 6600 block of Sproul Lane in Colorado Springs opened their front door to find a man, 21-year-old Joshua Perkins, passed out on their front porch. They called police and paramedics to check on Perkins.
When police arrived, they saw four firefighters trying to hold down an intoxicated Perkins, who had awaken and become agitated. Police handcuffed Perkins and attempted to place him in the back of a cruiser.
Police say that is when Perkins pulled away from officers and headbutted an officer in the face. Police forced Perkins to the ground and got him in the back of a police car.
Once they arrived at the police station, police say Perkins refused to exit the cruiser. According to a police statement, he tried several times to kick out the rear door window of the car.
Police tried spraying Perkins with pepper spray, but say that didn’t work. Still unruly, police shot Perkins with a Taser, which they say caused Perkins to become more cooperative.
Police have not disclosed what charges Perkins faces. The officer that Perkins allegedly headbutted received minor injuries in the scuffle. There were no other reports of injuries in this case.
