The District Attorney says a police officer was justified when he shot and killed a man earlier this year.
The shooting happened on highway 24 in Woodland Park last January.
According to the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office, officers with Woodland Park Police Department stopped a car in the eastbound lanes. As officers were talking to the driver, 20 year-old Craig Bondo, they discovered the car was reported stolen from Colorado Springs.
When the officers tried to arrest Bondo, he began to drive away, hitting one of the officers. Police fired at Bondo. He was hit and rushed to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where he later died.
As police were trying to make the arrest, one witness told KKTV she heard four to five shots from where she was in the Walmart parking lot.
Family members of Bondo told 11 News that he was driving a stolen car and was on the phone with his mother when police pulled him over. He reportedly told her he was going to run from police.
Highway 24 eastbound in Woodland Park was closed for nearly seven hours for the initial investigation.
