Machete Robbery Suspect Arrested
Man Uses Machete to Rob Store
Ten days after a Papa Murphy’s Pizza store was robbed by a suspect with a machete, police released a surveillance photo of the suspect to the public. The next morning, officers received a tip that solved the crime.
Colorado Springs police say the suspect was alone when he robbed the Papa Murphy’s at 3105 West Colorado Avenue on the afternoon of January 30. The suspect held the machete to the victim’s neck until they handed over some cash, and then the suspect ran away.
Detectives say they tried to identify the suspect on their own, but on February 9 they sent a surveillance photo to local media with a request for help from the public. The next morning, investigators received the tip that led them to an arrest.
Police say the tip led them to setup surveillance at the Paso Mobile Home Community at 15 El Paso Avenue in Manitou Springs. After a couple of hours, they spotted Howard York, 43.
York was intercepted and detained. Police say he was charged with aggravated robbery after they found factors connecting him to the crime.
