Authorities seized thousands of dollars in cash and nearly half a million dollars worth of meth during a drug bust in southwest Colorado. Fourteen people were also arrested.
The La Plata County Sheriff's Office said in addition to the cash and approximately 10 pounds of meth, they also found stolen guns and other stolen items.
Law enforcement officials say the drug dealers were bringing drugs into Durango and elsewhere in southwest Colorado from other cities in the southwestern U.S. They said the ring has connections to Las Vegas, California and Mexican drug cartels.
The alleged ring leader is Joseph Fitapelli, 55. Investigators said he had at least $8,000 on him when he was found
The six and a half week operation was a joint effort between the Southwest Drug Task Force and DEA .
