A Texas district attorney and his wife were shot in cold blood inside their own home.

The bodies of Mike McLelland and his wife were found Saturday night.

Authorities are now working to determine if there is any link between those murders and the murder of Colorado prison chief Tom Clements in his own home nearly two weeks ago.

Investigators are also looking for a link to a third murder; just two months ago, an assistant district attorney for Kaufman County, Texas was gunned down in front of a courthouse near Dallas. Victim Mark Hasse's boss: Mike McLelland.

The Forney, Texas mayor says the attack on the McLellands does not appear to have been random.

Sources told CBS affiliate KTVT in Dallas that the DA was shot multiple times with what is believed to be an assault rifle, while Cynthia McLelland was only shot once. Sources also say that there were no signs of forced entry.

Kaufman County sheriff's deputies sat in front of McLelland's driveway for about a month after Hasse's death. In recent weeks, McLelland had publicized the fact that he was armed at all times.

Since the McLelland killings, 11 News has learned that the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with Texas authorities. The FBI in Dallas and Denver had already been comparing the Hasse and Clements shootings, according to KTVT.

No link has been confirmed at this time.

The Kaufman County DA's Office had reportedly been known to prosecute against the 211s, a white supremacist gang that Clements suspect Evan Ebel had been known to be affiliated with.

Ebel was killed in a Texas shootout just two days after Clements' death. It's still unknown why he was in Texas.

The shootout happened about 100 miles away from where McLelland was killed.
