A man involved in an officer-involved shooting at the beginning of the month has turned himself in after reportedly violating the terms of his bond.
John Freyta, 46, was shot three times during a confrontation with authorities on New Year's Day. Authorities were attempting to locate Freyta on an alleged protection order violation. When Canon City police officers tried to contact him, Freyta fled and led officers on a high-speed chase. When authorities caught up with him, a short confrontation led to gunfire.
Authorities have not confirmed whether or not Freyta was armed during the alleged fight with the officers. Both the officer and the deputy were placed on administrative leave during the investigation into the confrontation with Freyta.
Before Wednesday, Freyta was last reported to have been airlifted to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs
But Wednesday, the Fremont County Sheriff's Office sent out a notice that Freyta was wanted again.
Thursday morning, Freyta turned himself in.
Freyta is facing multiple charges, including: domestic violence, violation of a protection order, eluding, resisting arrest and second degree assault on a peace officer.
