Some elementary students will be going back to school and finding out about a classmate who died over the weekend. A nine year old girl was hit by a truck in Rye and killed.
It happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday about 35 miles southwest of Pueblo.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office told us the little girl was with family gathering wood and she was asked to get the family dog. The driver of the truck pulled forward and hit the girl. She died at the scene.
“This is such a heartbreaking tragedy. I extend my most sincere sympathy to this family.” said Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor, who lives in the area and responded to the accident.
We asked investigators if the girl was related to the driver, at this time, they're not releasing that information. The sheriff's office is calling this an accident and said no one will be arrested.
