Despite recent heavy snows, a 6-square-mile wildfire is continuing to burn in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Fire officials say the Fern Lake Fire, which is 88 percent contained inside the park, will continue to smolder in dense forests, despite a foot of snow.

The fire, which remains under investigation, has been burning since Oct. 9 and has destroyed one cabin.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, fire officials are concerned that the state could face another major wildfire season because of a continuing drought.
