A manhunt has ended in Fremont County with the capture of a husband and wife.

The couple, identified as Raymond and Kimberly Lannigan, both 47, were wanted for burglary and fleeing authorities. They were found at 5:45 a.m. Thursday after spending the night in a creek bed near Garden Park Road. Captain Don Pinover with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office says the suspects were heading towards the road when they ran into a search team.

The manhunt started Wednesday after a Cañon City homeowner walked in on a burglary in progress. The suspects fled in a car and were chased by police up Red Canyon Road before ditching their car and running off.

As many as 30 law enforcement officers and a K-9 team combed the area around Garden Park, which is just north of Cañon City. The manhunt was scaled back to just six people from the Department of Corrections and the Sheriff's Office overnight once it got too dark, and was to pick back up once the sun rose.

Captain Don Pinover with the Sheriff's Office says a new search team had just begun foot patrols when they bumped right into the couple. The suspects claimed that their car broke down, but Pinover said the search team--who had photos of the suspects--weren't buying it. They were taken into custody without incident.

Authorities later went to the creek bed where the suspects had slept, and recovered the two weapons stolen from the Cañon City home: a 9 mm semi-automatic, fully loaded pistol and a pellet rifle.

While they were on the run, the Lannigans were considered to be armed and dangerous. Residents in the area had been told to lock their doors and lock any outside storage units.
