After more than 40 years, a son is reunited with his birth mother in Pueblo.
Howard Braukman says the search to find his mom, Sharon Summers, spanned several years and thousands of miles.
Braukman, who now lives in Florida, flew out to Pueblo just in time for Summers' 70th birthday.
"It's been the best birthday I've ever had," said Summers.
Summers never thought she would see her son again after giving him up for adoption back in 1967.
"I thought about him, wondered where he was and how he was, if he had a happy family or a happy life," said Summers.
Braukman tells 11 News he actually lived in Pueblo with his adoptive family until he was about four years old, before moving to Florida. He started his search for his birth family three years ago, and had almost given up hope.
"I got a phone call out of the blue saying 'by the way we found your records, and we think we have a good address,'" said Braukman.
That led him to Summers' house in Pueblo. Braukman not only got to meet his mom, but also his half-sister.
"It has been unbelievable that this has all come about in such a short time," said Summers.
"There's a lot of catching up to do over the next several years," said Braukman.
Braukman tells 11 News there are plans in the works for another visit soon.
