A Southern Colorado man confessed to sexually assaulting a minor when he contacted police.
The Conejos County Sheriff's Office says Ryan Amos Jaramillo, 28, of Manassa contacted police so he could confess the crime. Because the alleged crimes happened outside of Manassa, the sheriff's office interviewed Jaramillo.
He told the deputy that he had had an inappropriate relationship with a girl from 2012 through June of 2013.
The deputy interviewed that girl, who said the relationship had lasted for about five years.
Jaramillo was arrested April 30 and is charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child-pattern of abuse. Both are class 3 felonies.
The Conejos County Sheriff's Office says this is the third sexual assault arrest within one week in Conejos County.
"Sheriff Robert Gurule is hopeful that this apparent increase of sexual assault reports are the result of increased awareness and empowerment of victims and their families gaining courage and trust to come forth," the sheriff's office said in a news release sent Friday.
