A man arrested for sexual assault on a child is an employee for a Colorado Springs school district, 11 News has learned.

Murray Basinger works for District 11. A district spokesperson told us he is on administrative leave right now. D-11 says Basinger worked in the administrative office and had no contact with children.

Investigators say he sexually assaulted two young girls. According to court documents obtained by 11 News, the abuse happened six years ago.

Court papers show one of the girls wrote about the alleged abuse in her journal. Her stepfather recently found the journal, and told her mom. She called authorities back in April. She told investigators the abuse took place over several months.

Investigators say Basinger’s wife would often babysit the two girls at his home near Constitution and Powers. The alleged incidents reportedly happened when his wife was sleeping or running errands.

The court papers also show Basinger's wife suspected that something was going on. She confronted one of the girls, and asked her if there had ever been inappropriate contact with her husband. According to the court records, the girl told her no because she was afraid of Basinger.

Basinger now faces charges for sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

The 53-year-old Basinger was arrested September 29 by the El Paso County Sheriff’s office. He has since bonded out of jail.

11 News stopped by Basinger's house to get his response to the accusations against him, but a man on the driveway told us the family had no comment.

If you have any information about this case or similar events involving Basinger you're asked to call Detective Greg White at 520-7246.
