Major Flight Delays Could End With Bi-partisan Proposal

The major flight delays this week could soon come to an end.

Lawmakers approved a bill to relax the FAA budget cuts and bring air traffic controllers back to full time status.

Senator Mark Udall from Colorado helped craft the bipartisan proposal and said it will "restore common sense to the FAA."

The bill is now headed for the President's desk.

"This is an abject lesson in how vital these programs are - the nation's airspace," said Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon).

The air traffic controller cut backs were a result of the automatic budget cuts Congress allowed to take effect last month.

Less staffing in the towers triggered thousands of flight delays that angered passengers.

Airport towers could return to full staffing next week.
