An American soldier has been killed in Afghanistan and now nearly four years later authorities say someone in Southern Colorado may know what happened.

Sgt. Anton R. Phillips was 31-years old when he was stabbed to death on the final day of 2009 on the forward operating base Mehtar Lam.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command tells 11 News that they have reason to believe that someone in the Colorado Springs area knows something that is critical to the murder investigation.

Phillips was a member of the 5th Maintenance Company, 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment and was based in Germany.

Authorities say the murder took place around 8:00 p.m. between his living quarters and Pease Park.

If you have any information on this case CID is asking you to call 318-481-6567 or e-mail them at Army.CID.Tips@mail.mil

Phillips was originally from California; he was a father of three.

Investigators also do not know how many people may have been involved in the stabbing
