A female inmate has died at the Pueblo County Detention Facility.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says the 36-year-old woman was found unconscious in her bunk Monday afternoon, just 15 minutes after deputies had last spoken to her. The deputy who found her first tried to wake her, then tried to revive her with CPR. When that didn't work, the inmate was transported to Parkview Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m., less than an hour after she was first discovered.
The inmate, whose name has not been released, had been in custody since Sunday afternoon on charges of violating a protection order, assault, criminal mischief and domestic violence. The sheriff's office says the woman was being housed in a direct supervision area because of a medical condition that required prescription medications.
Staff and fellow inmates in the woman's wing have been interviewed. The county coroner is now conducting an autopsy.
