I-25 SB Back Open After Fatal Accident

Excessive speeding on icy roads is the suspected cause for a fatal crash Sunday night.

A 19-year-old from Colorado Springs was killed after being thrown from his vehicle and hit by an oncoming car. According to Colorado State Patrol, he was headed northbound on I-25 near the South Academy exit (mile marker 132) when he lost control. The teen was thrown from the vehicle as it began rolling off the road.

The crash closed the southbound side of the interstate from about 8:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. Monday.

State Patrol has identified the deceased driver as David Collas. They say he was not wearing his seatbelt.

The driver in the other car, 27-year-old Jamil Gadirov of Fort Carson, and his three passengers were all wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured.
