Gun Removed From School Thanks To Students' Actions

Pueblo County authorities are praising the actions of two students at Liberty Point International School, who informed a teacher that fellow student had brought a handgun to school.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says the 12-year-old boy was searched, and a gun was found. It was reportedly unloaded, and no ammunition was uncovered.

The student was taken into custody by the school resource officer. Charges against him have not been determined.

“It appears this young man has made a very poor choice," District 70 superintendent Ed Smith said. "That choice will have lasting consequences both at school and with law enforcement. There are heroes in this story too. Two students made the right choice today. They came to the staff right away and reported their concerns. These are the types of young adults our district strives for and we praise them.”

The district has spoken to the students and faculty about the incident, and has given every student a letter to take home to their families.

Since the threat was removed quickly, the school day was not impacted by the incident.
