Today is the last day to to adopt a cat or kitten for free at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
The Humane Society says the number of cats up for adoption spikes during the summer because families often move, and realize they can't take their pets with them. Strays are also more likely to be wandering neighborhoods, where they are picked up and brought to the Humane Society.
There are currently 100 cats up for adoption. All cat adoptions, including kittens, are free today, June 30. There may be licensing fees and a refundable sterilization deposit that still apply.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is located at 610 Abbot Lane in Colorado Springs. That's near I-25 and Highway 24 on the southwest side of town.
