A love triangle involving a police officer and a reality TV star is reportedly at the center of a stalking investigation.
Fountain Officer Daniel Barkus was arrested Tuesday after he threatened to kill the man who was marrying his ex-girlfriend. He bonded out Wednesday afternoon.
According to the arrest affidavit, on Monday after learning his ex was going to marry someone else, Barkus told his former girlfriend that he was "gonna go up there and kill him."
His former girlfriend Amanda Adkins, one of the stars of The Weather Channel's "Prospectors," lives on a campsite with Travis Anderson, Barkus' alleged target. The campsite is located on a mining claim in the national forest off Crystal Park Road.
The affidavit goes on to say that after Barkus made the threat, he told Adkins he was going for a walk. He then called her a short time later and said that he was close to her gate.
Adkins became afraid for Anderson's safety, the affidavit says, because she knew that as a police officer Barkus had access to weapons. She drove out to the gate, where she found Barkus, and followed him back to the campsite. At that point, the affidavit says she immediately began trying to find Anderson to warn him about Barkus' threat.
Anderson reportedly was concerned enough for his safety that he armed himself before telling Barkus to leave. At that point, the affidavit says Barkus left, but he returned to the campground just before midnight Tuesday. The affidavit says he got in an argument with Adkins and Anderson, and Anderson called the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies located Barkus shortly after midnight on Crystal Park Road, and arrested him. According to the affidavit, a loaded handgun was found in his vehicle.
