A group of sixteen non-commissioned officers and soldiers are competing today in the Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition.

The competition is being hosted at Fort Carson. It started April 4th and ends today, April 6th.

During the event NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers) and soldiers from Guam, Hawaii, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada compete in a series of events that test the participants endurance, mental toughness and resolve.

For one exercise, participants had to land in a Chinook under fire, make it through a hostile town, rescue an injured person, and take him to medics just outside of town.

According to a press release, this year's Region VII Best Warrior Competition is "dedicated to the fallen soldiers from this region."

Today's regional winners will move on to the next phase of the competition.
