The Department of Defense says that nearly 2,000 soldiers from Fort Carson are deploying to Afghanistan this winter.
Fort Carson's 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division was among the deployment groups announced Tuesday. The Pentagon says that roughly 1,830 people from Fort Carson will be deploying this winter.
The Fort Carson unit is one of six listed on the deployment announcement. The Department of Defense also listed 4,800 people in two units from Fort Campbell, Ky., and about 1,160 people from Fort Bliss, Texas. Soldiers from Fort Drum, N.Y., and Fort Bragg, N.C., were also on the order.
