For years, he worked to keep his community safe.
But Monday, the former firefighter stood before a judge for the first time on allegations of sexually assaulting a child 18 years ago.
Kenneth Outten was a firefighter in Anchorage for nearly decade until his arrest in August of this year. He was recently extradited from Alaska back to Colorado, where the sex crime allegedly took place.
Court records show Outten faces a charge of sexual assault of a child by one in a position of trust, allegedly committed in 1995 in El Paso County.
The judge waived his extradition Monday, meaning he can return to Alaska. He will return to court in Colorado in February.
