A fire ravaged a vacant building Pueblo early Wednesday morning, leaving it unsafe for the fire department to investigate the cause.

The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at an empty building on the 3200 block of North Elizabeth in Pueblo. Google Street View shows the building once housed a Mexican restaurant.

Firefighters say they saw heavy smoke as they got on scene. Early on while battling the blaze, the roof reportedly collapsed and the building became engulfed in flames.

Crews got the fire out around 4:30 a.m.

The fire department has called off the investigation until the building has been cleared and determined safe. Once its safe for investigators to enter, the investigation will resume.
