Fire Truck Involved In Accident Thursday

Colorado Springs police say there were more than 70 accidents Thursday morning as wintry weather hit the area for the first time this season.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says one those accidents involved their one of their own fire trucks. The accident happened just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Research and Lexington, when CSFD says the truck was hit by a driver that slid into the intersection and was unable to stop. The fire truck was returning from a call, and had the green light at the time according to CSFD.

The Fire Department said the driver in the other car was injured, and was transported to the hospital for treatment. No firefighters were hurt. In a statement released Thursday afternoon, CSFD said they were thankful the injuries were not more serious.

The fire truck sustained moderate damage, but the Fire Department says it will be able to stay in service.
