Officials with the Air Force Academy say this morning that the fire burning on academy grounds is controlled, but only 50 percent contained.

No structures are threatened at this time, and no one has been injured. Fire crews from the Academy, Tri-Lakes, El Paso County and the U.S. Forest Service will continue to aggressively attack the fire until it is fully contained.

Our Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe says the fire was likely caused by lightning. Investigators haven't released a cause.

We spoke to one man who was at home eating dinner when the fire started. His wife saw lightning strike. Moments later, they saw smoke from their patio. "You don't want these mountains to burn. They're so gorgeous and the last thing you want to see is fire out there. You don't want to see it," says John Rauk.
