Rains on Friday afternoon and evening helped firefighters gain control over a fire burning in the Grey Creek area. That's near Trinidad.

We are told that the fire started about a week ago after a lightning strike. It flared up July 19.

The rains last yesterday made it unsafe for firefighters to stay in the area. They returned today to create a dozer line around the fire, which is estimated to be around 5 to 7 acres.

The sheriff says they aren't calling the fire contained, but they do have it isolated and are working to make sure it can't spread.

The sheriff says no homes or buildings are threatened by the fire.
