Locally heavy rain will remain possible overnight, with any showers and storms. Areas likely to see additional heavy rain will likely be east of I-25 and along HWY 50 from Canon City eastward. You may have seen smoke and fire just before midnight Friday night, April 26. Firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department were at the 900-block of Conejos Street responding to a fire at a vacant structure.
Fire crews worked to get the fire knocked down and make sure the building was vacant. They report they found a note - indicating that someone possibly lived in the building. After a search, however, they ascertained that the building was empty.
The fire was declared under control at 12:35 a.m.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
