Two suspects have been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting near Helen Hunt Falls.
Colorado Springs Police say they were called to the 2210 block of North Cheyenne Canon Road June 28 at about 8:40 p.m. When they arrived at the scene they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died. On Monday, July 1, police positively identified the victim as Ishmal Mitchell, 20. A report from the coroner named Mitchell's cause of death to be homicide from multiple gunshot wounds.
North Cheyenne Canon Road was closed from Helen Hunt Falls to the Columbine trailhead while the scene was investigated.
Police also investigated a residence on Afternoon Circle in connection to the shooting. Afternoon Circle is near South Chelton Road and East Fountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs. Police aren't commenting on what they were looking for at the residence.
