Speed and alcohol are suspected to have contributed to an accident that left a motorcycle rider dead.

Colorado Springs police say a man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed along southbound Union Blvd. just south of Academy Blvd. when the driver of a Dodge Durango reportedly turned in front of him.

The driver of the Durengo has been identified as 33-year-old Jason Deal. Police say Deal was on northbound Union and was turning left onto Collegiate Drive when the motorcycle hit the right side of his vehicle.

Deal was arrested and is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The 33-year-old motorcycle rider has not been identified, pending notification of his family.

The accident happened at 7:00 p.m. July 26. It was the first of two fatal motorcycle accidents in Colorado Springs on that day.

The southbound lanes of Union Blvd. were closed at Garden Ranch Road for a couple of hours while police investigated.
