A driver faces DUI and vehicular homicide charges after police say he lost control while speeding down Austin Bluffs, and ran off the road.
According to police, the driver crashed into a curb as he approached Academy and rolled the vehicle. A female in the back seat was thrown from the car and suffered fatal injuries. She has been identified as 20-year-old Jordan Taverneir.
A second passenger was also injured, although the injuries were minor.
Police say the driver, identified as 20-year-old Nicholas Alvarado, broke his leg in the accident. He will be arrested on DUI, vehicular homicide and careless driving charges once released from the hospital.
Records indicate this is Alvarado's first time being in trouble with the law.
