The "Letter Rip!" document shredding day was a huge success Friday.
KKTV 11 News joined the Better Business Bureau, Mobile Record Shredders and Blue Star Recyclers to protect the identity of hundreds of people in Colorado Springs.
In four hours 26,000 pounds or 13 tons of documents were shredded in the parking lot of Security Service Field, home of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The material will be recycled at Mobile Record Shredders' facility in Pueblo.
Blue Star Recyclers estimate they collected 2,000 pounds of electronics to recycle or destroy.
More than $1,800 in donations was also collected for scholarships.
The next "Letter Rip!" day will be at the Pueblo Sam's Club at 412 Eagleridge Blvd. on Friday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
