A Denver man has been charged with harassing a state senator after officials say he left a threatening message on Senator Andrew Kerr's voicemail.
David Cassidy, 54, was charged last week with attempt to influence a public servant, a felony charge, and harassment, a misdemeanor. He was formally advised of the charges Tuesday in a Denver County courtroom.
Cassidy is accused of trying to sway Kerr's opinion or actions through threats. He allegedly left a threatening voicemail on March 4.
Documents from the Denver Police Department state that an investigator met with Cassidy at his home a few days after the voicemail was left on the Senator's cell phone. The message reportedly said "We'll get you out [of office] by ballots or bullets."
When contacted by an investigator, Cassidy said he did not mean that as a direct threat to Kerr.
Cassidy is scheduled to appear in court Monday, April 15. He is currently out on a $5,000 bond.
